WHAT IS PAWS-ABILITY?
Paws-Ability (PA), formed in 2007, is a 501c(3), nonprofit organization. We work to improve animal welfare in Brunswick County, NC. We do this through community programs and financial assistance to local rescue groups. Donations are tax deductible.
PA membership has grown to over 500 family members and more than 130 business members. Annual membership in PA is $10 for individuals, $15 for family and $50 for a business.
PA has been awarded and managed grants totaling more than $100,000 to fund spay and neuter programs in our community, reducing the number of unwanted animals. These programs have also reduced the number of animals euthanized in Brunswick County, saving not only lives but tax dollars as well.
PA actively partners with local animal rescue groups, working to improve animal welfare issues in Brunswick County.
PA funds protection for pets of domestic violence victims in conjunction with Hope Harbor Domestic Violence Shelter in Brunswick County. We completed a kennel addition that will house up to 3 pets at a time at Hope Harbor Domestic Violence Shelter, making Brunswick County a better place for all residents.
PA funds a pet education program, teaching children in Brunswick County schools why it is important to be a responsible pet owner and about safety and compassion for animals.
PA assists local animal rescue groups and shelters with extraordinary costs associated with the medical needs of animals in their care so these animals can be adopted.
Events sponsored by Paws-Ability include: the annual Bicycle Poker Run on Ocean Isle Beach, Mardi Gras for Paws, Halloween party, Spay-Ghetti Dinners, Classic Car Show, Red Toe Day for the pampered pooch, memorial and gift funds, Christmas card sales, concerts and more.
PA was selected NONPROFIT OF THE YEAR by the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce in 2014.
PA was selected to receive the Community Impact Award from the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce in 2015.
PA was named as a Business Leader in Brunswick County by the Rotary of Shallotte, NC.
PA is one of a chosen few nonprofit organizations with a GuideStar Gold rating. This rating program for nonprofit organizations is based on IRS compliance and transparency and is critical in qualification for grants.
PA has No salaries. Our work is done with volunteers, who continue working to improve animal welfare in Brunswick County. We do this because it is our responsibility.
